How Machine Learning & AI Minimize the Severity of Natural Disaster

AI (artificial intelligence) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. AI systems will typically demonstrate at least some of the following behaviors associated with human intelligence: planning, learning, reasoning, problem solving, knowledge representation, perception, motion, and manipulation and, to a lesser extent, social intelligence and creativity. Machine learning generally entails teaching a machine how to do a particular thing, like recognizing a number, by feeding it a bunch of data and then directing it to make predictions on new data. Research associated with the artificial intelligence is highly technical and specialized. AI covers quite a vast area and so it's no surprise there are numerous examples of how it's being used in both industry and everyday life.

The Extensive Use of Machine Learning & AI Technology for Coping With the Natural Disaster-

Natural disasters are out of the reach and influence of human beings. However, a lot can be done to minimize loss of lives. Artificial intelligence is one viable option that can potentially prevent massive loss of lives while at the same time make rescue efforts easy and efficient.

More and more natural disasters are happening every year: floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc. In order to reduce the risk of possible damages, governments all around the world are investing into development of Early Warning Systems (EWS) for environmental applications. Artificial Intelligence (AI) component has been developed for detection of abnormal dike behavior.

The severity of a natural disaster can minimize with the assistance of adequate disaster management techniques. Numerous natural disasters took place in 2017, out of which the monsoon floods in Bangladesh holds the highest number of deaths by killing more than 1200 people.

Modern Technologies Aiding Disaster Relief Programs-

Recent advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence are allowing researchers, engineers, and scientists to access and analyze new and bigger data sources than ever before. By combining AI and ML with data analytics technologies like natural language processing, experts are creating a new breed of AI & Machine Learning. Governments and relief agencies are leveraging these smarter analytics tools to improve their ability to coordinate effective, efficient, disaster relief programs.

Organizations are leveraging numerous technologies to combat natural disasters; one of them is machine learning. Machine learning is a technology that learns from its users about how they do particular tasks. Japan government plans to use artificial intelligence to analyze images of earth captured by the satellites to predict and prevent disasters. With the help of AI, the data from satellite can be put to appropriate use.
